How Diwali is Celebrated

In different places, Diwali is celebrated differently and different cultures are followed but the firecrackers and decorating homes with colorful lights and diyas are common. The History Behind Diwali

In North India, Diwali is associated with the tale of King Rama, an incarnation of the god Vishnu. When Rama’s wife, Sita, was abducted by the evil king of Lanka or Sri Lanka, Rama assembled an army of monkeys to rescue her. Together they constructed a bridge from India to Lanka, defeated the evil king, and rescued Goddess Sita. 

On their way back to Ayodhya, the people of Ayodhya greet Rama and Sita with the light of millions of lamps. So from this day onward, people celebrate Diwali by lighting lamps to honor the victory of light over darkness and good over evil

How to Celebrate Diwali at the Office

With all the fun and joy Diwali brings, celebrating it in the office is one of the best ways of making these wonderful moments for the employees. Here are a few ways to celebrate Diwali in the office:

  • 1. Decorate the Office

The Five Days of Diwali

Diwali is a five-day celebration, with each day holding its unique importance:

  • Dhanteras (Day 1)

    Dhanteras is the first day of Diwali. People worship the goddess Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantari, the god of medicine, on this day. Today people buy new things such as gold, and silver which is said to be the pathway to wealth and well-being. People start cleaning their homes and decorating them with lights on this day, as cleanliness symbolizes inviting good luck

  • Naraka Chaturdashi (Day 2)

    This day is usually known as Choti Diwali. This is the day when Lord Krishna conquered the evil demon Narakasura. People pray with light lamps to mark the end of darkness. People perform morning rituals to purify themselves of any evil or negativity.

  • Lakshmi Puja (Day 3)

    The third day is the main day of Diwali, when homes are decorated with diyas and rangolis. In the evening, Lakshmi puja is done to invoke good fortune from Goddess Lakshmi. This day also marks the importance of wealth and prosperity, and businesses usually open their books for the new financial year.

  • Govardhan Puja (Day 4)

    This day celebrates the day when Lord Krishna saved all the people of Gokul from the furor of Lord Indra by lifting the Govardhan Hill. People prepare different types of vegetarian dishes as an offering to Krishna. It is a day when family members get together and share meals together and share happy moments.

  • Bhai Dooj (Day 5)

    Today is the last day of Diwali, a day dedicated to celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, much like Raksha Bandhan. Here, sisters pray for their brothers' well-being and success and the brothers give some gifts and promise to protect them.
