Each year on the 25th of May every wine lover celebrates National Wine Day. Wine lovers often don’t need a reason to celebrate over a bottle of wine but today they do so why not? It is made from fermented grapes and other fruits. While turning the grapes into alcohol, the grapes are kept in closed jars until the yeast consumes all the sugar. There are several types of wines made from different grapes and fruits. Mostly white wines are sweeter as compared to red wines and are better when served chilled.

History of Celebrating Wine Day

Wine has been a part of human culture for thousands of years and we have been enjoying it for thousands of years. Its frequent mentions in the “Bible”, from Noah to Jesus, shows its integral role. Over time, wine has become a symbol of celebration, tradition, and social connection. The origins of this day are not well-documented, but it is a time to appreciate and enjoy the rich history and variety of wines. People like it not only because it tastes amazing but also because it’s nutritious and gives a crazy experience. It has a significant impact on the economy and shaped societies. Some argue that the foundation of Western society was built on wine.

The wine of ancient times differs greatly from today’s varieties. Egyptians used red, pink, green, white, and blue grapes, and often added palm dates, and figs, resulting in a very different taste. Making wine from various fruits involves a similar process to grape wine, with added sugar to aid fermentation. National Wine Day’s origins are unclear, but it first appeared around 2009. This day allows wine lovers to celebrate their favorite fermented drink. Initially, in 1974, California had just 25 wineries and today there are more than 800 wineries. California leads U.S. wine production with over 4,000 wineries, but every state now has at least three wineries. The most visited winery is the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, attracting over a million visitors annually.
