After returning to India, he joined the Indian National Congress and fought for the rights of farmers, laborers, and women. He also worked against caste discrimination as he knew how it felt to be treated unevenly and differently. He is known for his role in leading non-violent protests that inspired other freedom activities around the world. Instead of using violence, he chose peaceful protest against British authorities. On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was killed by Hindu nationalist NathuRam Godse

Mahatma Gandhi led many activities, two of his most famous movements were the Dandi March in 1930, where he led Indians to protest against the British salt tax, and the Quit India movement in 1942, protesting against the end of British rule. Gandhi fought for a nation where all religions would be respected including Hindu and Muslim. However, both Hindu and Muslim communities were against it.
